9.12.2023 - International Corruption Day 2023

​               In conjunction with the International Anti-Corruption Day 2023, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) held a Corruption Prevention Talk & Workshop with Bruneian youth, which took place at the ACB Headquarters, Jalan Lapangan Terbang Lama, Berakas.

The Corruption Prevention Talk & Workshop, aims to increase understanding and awareness about the crime and dangers of corruption amongst our youth and to get them involved in the fight against corruption in this country by sharing the knowledge from this program with their families and friends. At the same time, the talk & workshop also give them a platform to engage in discussions as well as exchange ideas with ACB about the ways or approaches that our youth can contribute towards the fight against corruption in Brunei Darussalam.  With the collaboration from the Youth and Sports Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, 23 youths of different academic background participated in this program.

In addition to holding the Corruption Prevention Talk & Workshop with Bruneian youth, ACB also formally launched a Corruption Prevention Gallery – Galeri Wiqaya, an exhibition room dedicated towards showcasing the efforts and activities on prevention works that have been carried out over the years by the ACB.  The gallery was officiated by YM Datin Paduka Hajah Anifa Rafiza binti Haji Abd Ghani, Director of ACB.

In conjunction with this year's International Anti-Corruption Day Celebration, also held was the recitation of the Surah Yaa Siin and Tahlil ceremony at the Royal Mausoleum for  the late parents of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Bendahara Pengiran Anak Abdul Rahman, and for His Majesty’s late son Al-Marhum His Royal Highness Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim on Thursday, 7th December 2023.  ACB’s delegation was led by YM Syed Azmal bin Syed Ali, Deputy Director of ACB and participated by officers and staff of ACB.

A Friday Khutbah, entitled "Do not betray the trust you are entrusted with”, was also read in all mosques and suraus, in Brunei Darussalam, on Friday, 8th December 2023, in a joint initiative with the Department of Mosque Affairs, under Ministry of Religious Affairs. The Khutbah, emphasized that abuse of power is an act that is prohibited in Islam.  From the legal perspective, abuse of power is a criminal offence.  Amongst the offences related to the abuse of power are corruption and criminal breach of trust.  The public can help to prevent abuses of power by reporting it to law enforcement agencies including ACB if it is related to corruption and misconduct in public office.  


The International Anti-Corruption Day celebration is celebrated every year on December 9th.  The celebration of the International Anti-Corruption Day is to commemorate Brunei Darussalam’s commitment as a party to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
