11-13 November 2024 – Brunei Darussalam participated in the 2nd cycle country review of the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) by the Kingdom of Tonga, focusing on Chapter II (Preventive Measures) and Chapter V (Asset Recovery).
The Brunei Darussalam delegation comprised governmental experts from the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC), who served as peer reviewers under the UNCAC Implementation Review Mechanism. The delegation engaged with representatives from various government agencies and civil society organization in Tonga to assess the country’s implementation of UNCAC and identify good practices, challenges and technical assistance needs. The review process also provided an opportunity to engage with civil society organizations and other relevant stakeholders to obtain broader perspectives on Tonga’s anti-framework and implementation efforts. The UNCAC review mechanism encourages consultations with relevant stakeholders, including civil society and the private sector, as part of the review process.
